Blind Spots

Have you ever been close to making a maneuver in which you saw no other cars around, only to see a vehicle creep up on you? This is commonly referred to as a blind spot. If you are like most drivers, you have constantly been setting your side-view mirrors to give you a view of your car’s back corner. This is probably what your high school driving teacher or your parents taught you, but safety experts have made a very interesting discovery: the back corner of the car never moves. It remains in the same exact place, so there's really no reason to keep checking on it. Blind spots are a major player in the occurrence of car accidents.

Have you or someone you know been injured because someone was not paying attention to their blind spots? If so, contact one of our experienced car accident attorneys in your area today!

If you move your side mirrors to the outside, you can line up all three of your mirrors so they have a little overlap, and you can see everything behind you. Those cars you could see only by glancing over your shoulder are now visible in your side mirrors. A different way to eliminate driving blind spots consists of this:

  • Set your rearview mirror like you normally would.
  • Lean your head to the left until it touches the driver's window. In that same position, adjust your left side-view mirror so you can see just the edge of the left side of your car.
  • Move to the center of the seat and adjust the passenger's side mirror until you can see just the edge of the right side of your car.

After this procedure, cars behind you will be visible in your inside mirror, but as soon as they disappear from your inside mirror, you will be able to see them in your outside mirrors. Like magic, you will have no more blind spots. If you do find yourself involved in an accident, though, you should contact an attorney to get legal help.

    All vehicles have blind spots

Generally, the larger the vehicle, the larger the blind spot. The inability to see the traffic around you can have serious consequences to yourself and other drivers.
