Have you been involved in a car crash caused by cell phone usage? If you’re like most adults, you probably have used your cell phone while driving. Both of these have become virtually necessary to survive in today’s fast-paced world. Be it for business, pleasure, or an emergency, cell phone usage while driving is almost inevitable. In fact, about 6% of drivers were using a phone as they were driving in 2005. That’s about 974,000 people driving and talking at the same time in broad daylight, at any given time.

Although many countries have banned the use of mobile phones while operating a vehicle because of car crashes due to cell phone use, cell phone driving law is still a relatively controversial in the United States. Sometimes a call simply cannot wait. Furthermore, many disagree with this move citing that there are other car accidents caused by distractions that are even more dangerous, including:

  • eating
  • drinking
  • applying make-up
  • fussing with electronics within the car, such as a CD-player, iPod, or GPS

Needless to say, the best way to drive is with zero diversions. Operating an extremely heavy vehicle in the fast-paced roads of this country requires a lot of concentration and attention to detail. But, situations do arise and sometimes you need to communicate with others while moving from one place to another. Ideally, these conversations should be kept to a minimum, but at times this is impossible. Regardless of the circumstances, if you have been involved in an accident due to talking on your phone while driving, an experienced attorney can provide the legal counsel you need.
