Hit And Run

Hit and run is the colloquial term used to describe an automobile accident where the party at fault immediately leaves the scene of the crash in order to avoid liability or potentially criminal charges for damages or actions. In almost all states, the act of leaving the scene of an accident is a felony offense, and if not a felony, a high class misdemeanor. Aside from criminal charges stemming from leaving the scene of an accident, drivers still must account for liability for damages incurred on other vehicles if later apprehended by police. This may also include damage to persons in the form of personal injury suits.
