Question:

I slid on an ice covered bridge that had not been salted. No others were involved. Are counties or cities responsible for this type of accident? I hit the side rail and incurred some vehicle damage.

Answer: (1)

Depending on the state you live in, it is likely that the Department of Transportation has a responsibility of salting dangerous roads to ensure public safety. In order to evaluate if the state you live in has that responsibility, you would have to review the torts and statutes surrounding liability and responsibility of salting public roads. It is advisable to take this matter to a qualified attorney.
