Major Accident in College Station
On January 13, 2008 at about 3:11pm, College Station Police Department responded to the area of Earl Rudder Freeway and William Fitch Parkway in reference to a major accident. Through investigation, officers determined that the accident involved a red Volkswagen Jetta (traveling north in the outside lane), a green Ford Taurus and a white tractor trailer rig (both traveling north in the inside lane). The events of the accident began when the driver of the Ford Taurus began to change lanes to the right, nearly striking the Volkswagen Jetta. The driver of the Jetta attempted to avoid being struck by swerving to the right. The Jetta however, left the roadway and once off of pavement began to flip. The driver of the Taurus, now realizing that there was a car next to him, swerved back to the left and hit his brakes. The tractor trailer rig that had been traveling behind the Taurus was unable to stop when the Taurus hit his brakes, and therefore struck the Taurus. The impact of the tractor trailer rig into the Taurus then caused the Taurus to flip over.
The driver of the Jetta was transported to the hospital by College Station Ambulance, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The drivers of the Taurus and tractor trailer rig were uninjured. The driver of the Taurus was issued a citation for an Unsafe Lane Change.
Northbound Earl Rudder Freeway was restricted to one lane for about an hour and half, while the accident was investigated and the roadway cleared of any debris.
