Have you ever wished that you could just sit back, relax and let your care parallel park itself? With the new technology announced by Ford, this might be something that is a lot closer to reality than many people may think. Ford Motor Co. said on Tuesday that there self parking technology will debut in as an option in the new 2010 Lincoln MKT luxury crossover vehicle making the idea of a vehicle that parks itself a reality. The self-parking technology that has been announced by Ford uses ultrasonic sensors on the rear and front of the vehicle in combination with electric power steering in order get the right angle and fit into those tight spaces. However to the average consumer everything will just be done with the touch of a button making self-parking technology something that has many consumers excited. The fact of the matter is that Ford is definitely not the first company to introduce self parking technology as Toyota Motor Corp’s Lexus luxury line has a self parking system that uses cameras in order to determine if your vehicle has the clearance it needs to fit into any given spot. However there are several reasons by the guys at Ford are claiming their technology to be so revolutionary. The main reason is that it is extremely easy to use and takes all situations in to account such as downhill parking. This is all according to Ford’s president of the Americas, Mark Fields. "This one-touch function will be much safer to use and less intimidating," Fields said. "It's all part of our strategy to introduce smart technology to a vehicle that will make our lives easier."The driver of the vehicle using the self-parking technology will still have to operate the gas and brake pedals as well as the transmission. A visual and audible driver interface will advise of approaching people, vehicles, and objects, however the driver of the vehicle will not have to touch the steering wheel during the process. These are the main differences between Ford’s technology and other car manufacturers attempt at self-parking technology. They are also the reasons that so many different people in the industry as well as consumers are excited about this new announcement from Ford.
