MDOT Announces Weekend Lane Closures for Motorists Traveling in the Jackson Area
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announces the following traffic alerts to motorists traveling in and around the Jackson area this weekend.
Weather permitting, beginning Saturday, January 27, crews will be working in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 between Lakeland Drive and Fortification Street. Motorists can expect the inside southbound lane and the southbound Woodrow Wilson on-ramp to be closed. Crews will begin work at 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to drive with extreme caution through the work zone area and utilize the adjacent on-ramps and exit ramps.
The work being performed is a continuation of the installation of protective concrete barrier walls in areas along Interstate 55 between Pearl Street and Lakeland Drive.
Motorists should also be aware of the following lane closure in the Stack area.
Weather permitting, beginning Saturday, January 27, crews will close the right lane of Interstate 55 northbound from the bridge over Highway 80 to the bridge over the Pearl River. The purpose of this work is to replace signage. Crews will begin work at 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Motorists are urged to buckle up for safety and drive with extreme caution through all work zone areas,” said District Engineer Ricky May. “MDOT regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause motorists.”
