Fatal Auto Pedestrian Crash

Oregon State Police, Mar 15, 2007

Oregon - Oregon State Police are investigating the death of an 18-year old who was struck early Wednesday morning lying in the middle of an eastbound traffic lane of Highway 30 about one mile west of Scappoose. The victim, identified as Rocky Todd Walker II from Scappoose, died later at a Portland hospital and OSP troopers are asking for the public's help in this investigation.

A 2006 Ford Focus driven by Brenda Broadbent, age 44, from St. Helens, was enroute to work eastbound on Highway 30 near Wikstrom Road when she came upon a body lying in the middle of the right hand eastbound lane. Broadbent was unable to avoid the darkly clothed person and ran over him. A witness traveling ahead of Broadbent was able to avoid the victim and stopped at the scene.

Walker was taken by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital where he died at 5:39 a.m. He was reportedly wearing blue jeans, black leather jacket, and a baseball cap with a white front and dark top.

Oregon State Police troopers from the St. Helens work site are investigating and have asked for any help from anyone who may have seen someone walking in that area near the time of the reported crash. Troopers do not know at this time if the victim was struck by another driver who left the scene or was lying in the roadway for an unknown reason.
