New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzone Critically Injured In Motorcade Accident
Jon S. Corzine, New Jersey Governor was critically injured in a motorcade accident which took place Thursday evening. Jon S. Corzine is expected to recover after the accident that broke his leg,his breastbone, and six ribs on each side.
Authorities are still in search for a pickup truck which has been identified for its actions being the cause for the accident.
Corzine, 60 years of age, won't be able to continue his duties as governor for New Jersey state for several days, if not weeks, and won't be able to walk normally for months, stated his doctor. Fortunately, he did not suffer any brain damage in the accident, stated Dr. Robert Ostrum, who performed two hours of surgery on the governor Thursday night at Cooper University Hospital.
The accident ooccurred around 6 p.m. while Corzine was on his way from Atlantic City headed to the governor's mansion in Princeton to moderate a meeting involving the Rutgers woman's basketball team and radio personality Don Imus.
Don Imus was fired from his CBS radio program Thursday for racially charged comments he made in regards to the team on air. The closed door meeting continued on without Corzine, and lasted about three hours.
Corzine was sitting in the front passenger's seat of the SUV driven by Trooper Robert Rasinski. A white pickup truck driving nearby swerved to avoid a red pickup truck which had moved onto the highway from the shoulder, state police Superintendent Rick Fuentes said.
The white pickup truck hit the passenger side of the SUV, sending it skidding into a guardrail. The red pickup truck left the scene. Authorities are still searching for the red pickup and its driver. |
