Lafayette - At approximately 9:42 this morning, Indiana State Trooper Nate King was dispatched to a reported personal injury accident which occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the 159.5 mile marker in Clinton county. The northbound lanes were kept closed for more than three and one half hours during the ensuing investigation and clean up of the accident site.Preliminary investigation revealed that a southbound passenger vehicle had crossed the median and into the path of a northbound semi. The driver of the semi. Jess A. Lowe, age 52, of Fortville, Indiana who was uninjured, was unable to avoid striking the passenger car. The driver and both passengers in the car were killed in the accident. The impact of the crash split the passenger car in half with the front half of the vehicle coming to rest on the northbound shoulder near the area of impact and the passenger compartment traveling off the east side of the interstate and north of the impact area. The semi impacted the passenger side of the car in the northbound driving lane. The driver of the car was wearing a seatbelt, however, it could not be determined if the passengers were. Due to the severity of the crash, it is believed seat belts would not have prevented injury or death. At this time the driver and passengers of the car have not been identified. An Indiana State Police crash reconstruction expert is assisting in the investigation which is continuing.Vehicle #1 - Silver 2007 Mazda, Minnesota Registration UXL222Vehicle #2 - 1993 Freightliner, Indiana registration  70707Owner - Roadway Express2530 South Ave.Indianapolis, IN. 46241The State Police were assisted at the scene by: Clinton County Sheriff's Department, Mulberry Fire Department, Mulberry EMS, and Frankfort EMS.Contact: Sergeant Wayne Flick, PIOPhone: 1-317-615-7373 or 1-800-523-2226Email: wflick@isp.in.gov
