C.L.U.E. stands for the Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange. This system allows insurance companies access to consumer claims history. Clue is operated by ChoicePoint. Insurance companies can subscribe to CLUE. Any company that does not subscribe cannot submit claims information for a consumer.
What Is A CLUE Report
A CLUE report shows the loss history for anyone with claims processed by the subscribing insurance companies. There are two types of reports generated through CLUE, the Auto Report and the Personal Property Report.
Information in the CLUE report includes:
- Policy numbers and policy information
- 7 years of claims history
- Date of birth
- Consumer notes
Who Has Access To My CLUE REPORT?
- Insurance companies and their authorized agents can access CLUE reports for consumers requesting policies through their companies.
- CLUE reports are also accessed by insurance companies during the process of underwriting new policies.
- Consumers can access their own CLUE reports. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, these reports can be accessed once per year at no cost to the consumer.
- In the case of Personal Property Reports, a buyer can request that the owner provide their CLUE Report prior to closing.
Who Cannot Access My CLUE REPORT?
- Insurance companies who are not directly involved with the customer cannot have access to the CLUE Reports.
- Other consumers cannot access your CLUE Report.
How Do I Access My CLUE Report?
You can access your CLUE Report by mail or by phone. You will need to provide proof of identification in order to access your CLUE Report.

Your CLUE Report is Wrong or Doesn’t Show the Whole Story
If you feel that your CLUE Report is incorrect, there are a few steps you can take to correct the information.
- Contact ChoicePoint to request that the information in your CLUE Report is corrected. ChoicePoint gives the insurance company 30 days to correct the information.
- Consumers can add notations to their report. For example, if you caused an accident you could indicate on the report that you took a class to improve your driving skills.
